History of the 1812 Shootout
The 1812 Shootout has developed a history of
strong competition and fun times. Its history is in the photos families and
players carry home, the records in the record books, the comments online by
players, the notes taken by the many college scouts who attend, but mostly the
history is in the memories of every player who has faced a big game whether it's
U-8 or High School Elite and played well.
A memory of a player from Texas, new to the
high competition of one of lacrosse's best tourney's:

The 1812 Shootout was a very wonderful experience. I want to thank the organizers of
the event. Coming from Texas I was very interested to see how our guys stacked
up against the New Yorkers. Our U-15 team finished 9th winning 4 and losing 1
(32 teams in their bracket). In general, the Texas kids are step for step with
the skill level of the game, but lack the overall understanding of the team
dynamics of lacrosse. For example, on fast breaks, I believe, our guys view this
as an opportunity to take a blow rather than exploit an advantage. I believe
that at the Texas dinner table there is not much conversation regarding the
great game. When our Texas kids return from playing in college and start their
families, Texas lacrosse will compete with any areas in the county. Texas
culture is oriented towards football and baseball. This will change, but it will
be a very long process.
Coach Comments:
"I love coming to 1812 Shootout.
It's a great way to see the best talent in the entire region in one spot playing
enough games to really evaluate both talent and attitude."
"This is a great tournament since there are
all levels of players here. Not just the stars going to the big D1 schools, but
the kind of players I'm looking for who will do well at D2 and D3.
